mashup

A small mashup of the three songs that I choose for the photos

Audio Tour Experience

Sound Recording:

I think that the derive was very interesting because it made you think about surroundings and it made me feel very peaceful. I was sick that day so I was not feeling good at all but the audio tour calmed me down a little bit. I taken to some really cool places in ways that I didn't know was possible so I think it gave me a different perspective on how I think in comparison to how others exist in the world.

Songs of the Week 2

1.) We are the World by Michael Jackson

This song reminds me of when I was in choir in high school and how I really enjoyed singing with a bunch of my friends.

2.) Go Go by BTS

Go Go by BTS reminds me of a good friend back at home and we used to jam out to this song when we saw each other.

3.) Breaking Free From High School Musical

This song is a what me and a friend sing to all the time because it describes our friendship.

4.) See the Light by GOT7

5.) Be Alright by Ariana Grande

Dérive

The place for my Dérive is in the fancy choir room in the bottom floor of Miller Performing Arts Center.

50 things about my Dérive:
  • There are multiple ways to get to the dérive
  • You can take the elevator to the bottom floor
  • There are long flights of stairs down to the bottom floor that you can take
  • There is a side door that can be accessed if you find the hidden entry
  • There is one hallway leading you to the derive
  • Miller has two buildings and they are connected through a tunnel
  • on the way to the dérive, you are right next to the Miller Theatre
  • There is art everywhere
  • On your way to the dérive you see a lot of ceramics tiles
  • You don't really need to turn on the lights because there is enough natural lighting for the choir room
  • There is a big echo in the hallway outside of the choir room
  • There are two doors that you can enter to room with
  • The right side door was open
  • The choir room is very sound proof
  • The left grand piano is the one they use the most from what I could tell
  • The pianos will sometimes be opened a crack so you can see the strings
  • There is a stereo in the choir room
  • The choir chairs are in an arch shape
  • There are two grande pianos
  • There are really high ceilings
  • There is a big viewing window so you can see when they are having class
  • The room has a red curtain to block the viewing window
  • To the left there is a shelf for holding sheet music
  • The walls have tile looking things that I think helps with the acoustics of the room
  • The schedule on the door has private lessons and choral classes but the room is not used on the weekends
  • The window out has a view of SUNY Alfred
  • At night you can see the Alfred State lights shine
  • It's pretty icy
  • Not a lot of people know about how many different things are in Miller
  • Miller is open most of the day so it is accessible to any student at Alfred
  • Public safety can be called so you can unlock the doors if they are not open already
Because of technical difficulties, I am going to post the script I have for my audio tour. The file was too big to be uploaded to youtube. (I will find a way to post the audio later)

Ok so I am here to take you to my Dérive. I am going to take you to the chorus room in Miller Performing arts center. It's just outside the Miller Theatre in the tunnel connecting the two buildings. It's pretty cool but not many people know about it besides the music and dance students.

So im guessing you're in Cohen studios right now for foundations and I am gonna lead you to my special secret place. By the way make sure to bring supplies to draw with.

Go outside through the front of Cohen and you are going to go out to the street and turn to the left. When you get all the way down to the one traffic light in Alfred you are going to cross the street and go over the little bridge next to Harder Hall.

you can go up the hill to the stop sign and turn left towards the Scholes Library. Keep walking and walking until you are right by Ade Dining Hall and the building to the left is Miller Performing Arts center. Now just go up the stairs of Miller and There will be a door and you have to turn the knob to get in.
Ok you're in so take the elevator from the front entrance and go down to level one. When you arrive to the first floor you can take a right off the elevator and go ALL the way down that hall and just open the doors and then you will find a viewing window to your right and there you can see the choir room in Miller.

If you can get into the room if it's not locked play a song or learn to play a song on the piano and record it to show that you found the choir room. If the door is locked then sketch me a drawing of the room and write about what you see on the back. When I saw the choir room I there was a voice class going on so it is ok if you can’t get in but make sure to do a sketch of your surroundings. If you go to the end of the hallway there is the Miller Theatre where there are a lot of dance performances and theatre productions going on throughout the year.

When you are finished sketching or playing time to go back to Cohen! Now we are going to go out another way which is a bit easier than the last. Go ALL the way back down that hallway you are in and when you reach the staircase go out the door on your right. Once you go out that door go up the mini driveway hill thingy and you will be on academic alley. Just go down the street all the way to harder hall and go down the hill like we did going to Miller and then turn left back to the studios. Ta day you survived.

Weekly Photos 2

This week have been filled with AU Dance Theatre practices working long hours with choreographers so most of these pictures revolve around the theme of dance and how the photography prompts fit into my week.

Prompts:
1.) Gathering
Sneak peek at the guest choreographer's dance for AU Dance Theatre focusing on the concept of communities in which we belong to and gatherings within society
2.) Community
This photo is inside Miller Performing Arts Center and you can see a few dancers walking down the hallway and I thought it was a good representation of how I am part of the dancing community here at Alfred University.

3.) Cluster

4.) Collection
This photo has a bit of humor tied into it because in dance class we have been doing a lot of work on the floor and doing tricks and when I thought of collection I thought about the multiple bruises that were on my legs. There are 19 bruises total so I think that can be considered a "collection"
5.) Family

Collaborative Collection

Me and Dani's collection revolved around "pieces" and "shards." Both of our collections were very different but we both had fragments of things like she had small pieces of glass and I had small pieces of doodles so it worked out to continue the theme of incomplete things that make a whole.

Life Story

I was born in Nanning Guangxi China. I was abandoned in front of a police station at the mere age of three days old. I guess you could say that I had a bit of a rough start to say the least. I'm an international adoptee living in America. I grew up with a really great education. My high school was one of the top three public schools in CT. I took art classes, danced in a company, I even learned multiple languages.
I was really lucky at my high school. I learned three instruments and was in the advanced choirs. I went to the Estelle Jones School of Dance taking ballet, pointe, lyrical, tap and jazz. Dance is one of the things that has shaped who I am today.

Art is definitely another major part of my life. I took AP Studio Art and wanted to study art education. In preparation for college, I sent out my portfolio and waited. I was a pretty average student for my high school. I was on the honor roll and was pretty accomplished for a normal high schooler.  I got my acceptance letter from Alfred University not really knowing much about it. I applied to other schools but none stood out to me. After touring Alfred University, I was set on becoming an art student. Since completing my first semester at Alfred I have changed a lot I've become stronger, more mature, I learned that sometimes its ok to speak up. My life story isn't finished yet but I am excited to see what will come next.

The 14 lights represent 14 parts of my life and tied together to make me

Abstract Portrait:

Public Self:
The concept for this photo was to have myself look very cute and almost childish. Most people mistake my age for being in high school and they think I am very young or youthful.
Private Self:
I wanted to portray myself as more mature and elegant because I am originally a classically trained ballet dancer. I wanted to show others how I am more mature than people think I am.

Collection

My collection of things that were made or found in Alfred was doodles or art scraps made by art students/professors. I wanted to do this collection because it's a little piece of someone's creativity. I am a believer that people's art represents much of themselves and who they are as a person and I got a bunch of little pieces of other people's personality.

Write Up on Podcast

In the story on Tonya on Fire it is about a girl who looks just like Tonya Harding, a former figure skater who was rumored to be responsible for the clubbing of the famous athlete Nancy Kerrigan before the olympics of 1994. The girl was always compared to her and was looked down upon for looking like Tonya. Throughout the podcast it talked about how the girl tried to not look like Tonya and changed her hair but then she ended up getting into acting because she realized her asset was looking like Tonya. She was not the most thrilled to be compared to such a controversial figure in history.

Storytelling Assignment

I decided to do the storytelling assignment using the text of The Giver by Lois Lowry because since middle school it has become one of my favorite books. I always enjoyed the idea of dystopian societies in literature and this book in specific always reminded me of how complicated people are emotionally. I decided to read a few sentences from chapter 16 because the text is about Jonas the main character if his parents love him but because he has certain emotions that others cannot feel or understand. His parents' response was that it was silly of him to use the word "love" which really struck me ever since I was younger wondering how could people ever live without feeling.
