Dérive

The place for my Dérive is in the fancy choir room in the bottom floor of Miller Performing Arts Center.

50 things about my Dérive:
  • There are multiple ways to get to the dérive
  • You can take the elevator to the bottom floor
  • There are long flights of stairs down to the bottom floor that you can take
  • There is a side door that can be accessed if you find the hidden entry
  • There is one hallway leading you to the derive
  • Miller has two buildings and they are connected through a tunnel
  • on the way to the dérive, you are right next to the Miller Theatre
  • There is art everywhere
  • On your way to the dérive you see a lot of ceramics tiles
  • You don't really need to turn on the lights because there is enough natural lighting for the choir room
  • There is a big echo in the hallway outside of the choir room
  • There are two doors that you can enter to room with
  • The right side door was open
  • The choir room is very sound proof
  • The left grand piano is the one they use the most from what I could tell
  • The pianos will sometimes be opened a crack so you can see the strings
  • There is a stereo in the choir room
  • The choir chairs are in an arch shape
  • There are two grande pianos
  • There are really high ceilings
  • There is a big viewing window so you can see when they are having class
  • The room has a red curtain to block the viewing window
  • To the left there is a shelf for holding sheet music
  • The walls have tile looking things that I think helps with the acoustics of the room
  • The schedule on the door has private lessons and choral classes but the room is not used on the weekends
  • The window out has a view of SUNY Alfred
  • At night you can see the Alfred State lights shine
  • It's pretty icy
  • Not a lot of people know about how many different things are in Miller
  • Miller is open most of the day so it is accessible to any student at Alfred
  • Public safety can be called so you can unlock the doors if they are not open already
Because of technical difficulties, I am going to post the script I have for my audio tour. The file was too big to be uploaded to youtube. (I will find a way to post the audio later)

Ok so I am here to take you to my Dérive. I am going to take you to the chorus room in Miller Performing arts center. It's just outside the Miller Theatre in the tunnel connecting the two buildings. It's pretty cool but not many people know about it besides the music and dance students.

So im guessing you're in Cohen studios right now for foundations and I am gonna lead you to my special secret place. By the way make sure to bring supplies to draw with.

Go outside through the front of Cohen and you are going to go out to the street and turn to the left. When you get all the way down to the one traffic light in Alfred you are going to cross the street and go over the little bridge next to Harder Hall.

you can go up the hill to the stop sign and turn left towards the Scholes Library. Keep walking and walking until you are right by Ade Dining Hall and the building to the left is Miller Performing Arts center. Now just go up the stairs of Miller and There will be a door and you have to turn the knob to get in.
Ok you're in so take the elevator from the front entrance and go down to level one. When you arrive to the first floor you can take a right off the elevator and go ALL the way down that hall and just open the doors and then you will find a viewing window to your right and there you can see the choir room in Miller.

If you can get into the room if it's not locked play a song or learn to play a song on the piano and record it to show that you found the choir room. If the door is locked then sketch me a drawing of the room and write about what you see on the back. When I saw the choir room I there was a voice class going on so it is ok if you can’t get in but make sure to do a sketch of your surroundings. If you go to the end of the hallway there is the Miller Theatre where there are a lot of dance performances and theatre productions going on throughout the year.

When you are finished sketching or playing time to go back to Cohen! Now we are going to go out another way which is a bit easier than the last. Go ALL the way back down that hallway you are in and when you reach the staircase go out the door on your right. Once you go out that door go up the mini driveway hill thingy and you will be on academic alley. Just go down the street all the way to harder hall and go down the hill like we did going to Miller and then turn left back to the studios. Ta day you survived.
